Updates - more doctors, Maya gets messy, and a trip to Coach!

Here is an update from the past week......

We visited Sugar Land last weekend again. Maya had her massage therapy and we had lunch with my mom before she left for India (only 3 weeks this time). We borrowed the stander from Medcare again this weekend and Charlie got to see her in it for the first time. Maya is doing SO GREAT in the stander and we are so happy. She even points to it when she wants to get in it. How neat! We hope it lasts. She got in it twice a day for almost an hour each time the three days we had it.

Maya's cough cleared up really quickly and her tooth is starting to show even more! She isn't drooling yet, but she is really sucking her fingers more. Of course, she still has her pacifier to give her relief. We started seeing her fuss more at night this week - we can start blaming it on teething??

Maya is really starting to show her personality. Charlie and I love watching her think and to see what she will do next. Right now, she has this fascination with crayons and more, the box. She takes the crayons out and puts them back in the box, one by one. Sometimes, if it doesn't go in right, she starts all over again. Hours of entertainment for this one! Of course, this comes with its treats for me. There are now crayon markings all over our rug and her clothes. She prefers to write on the rug than on the paper, of course.

Crayons are not the only thing she likes to put in the container. She will often take the top to her sippy cup, pick up a piece of her food, put it in the cap and then it will finally make it into her mouth. Geez! It is funny what these kiddos go though. And she is so happy about it, too. I mean everytime she puts a puff in the cup, she giggles at it and then giggles again when she puts it in her mouth. She is such a clown sometimes!

This week she continued to amaze us with her skills. She is still playing with her puzzles, but now she has added the Magnadoodle to the list. She will pick up the pen and draw on the board and she knows that she can slide the button to the right to erase her drawing. Amazing!

Medical stuff: On Tuesday, Charlie and visited the genetic counselor. She was very good and informative. We talked about alot of things, the genetics, carrier testing for us and the fam and future children options. All in all, well worth the 3 hours we stayed there. Charlie and I got our carrier testing done that day. Not sure when it will be back and quite honestly, we aren't in any hurry.
Thursday we had another equipment vendor drop by a trial stander, the Rabbit, for the weekend. Unfortunately, the adjustments were still not low enough for Maya and she looked awfully uncomfortable in it. The issue is that the one she has been using (from Medcare) is no longer being made, so we have to choose another model. There aren't that many around for her height and worse, not many trials floating around for her to try them out. It has been a struggle to say the least. Anyway, we shall try it! Oh yeah, no tray with this one to entertain her while she is "working out". So many trips up and down the hallway for the Maya Bean in the stander this weekend!
Friday was a BUSY day. First we had an appointment with Dr. Oermann, pulmonologist. We waited for 2 hours to see him - yuck! Maya finally fell asleep on her grandma and slept throught the entire visit!! The dr was pretty helpful and it was nice to hear that Maya situation is not of a huge concern to him at this point. He identified several things to look out for and equipment in the future, but assured us that nothing was needed at this time. Next Maya went to PT at Medcare and her Nana joined us! Nana just got back from India and needed to see his little granddaughter! Then, we were off to the orthodics appointment where Maya got fitted for her braces. These are called AFOs. I think the A is ankle and the F is foot. Not sure about the O. Someone told me all the meanings at one point, but definitely too much to retain! Anyway, that was fun...being sarcastic. I did not know what we were getting into at this visit! The guy started taking measurements of Maya and had totally forgotten about the molding process. I had to hold Maya on a table and let her legs dangle down while this guy put all this plaster over her feets and legs. He was using a dark marker to mark all her measurements. What a mess! Surprisingly, Maya did not cry! A few whines here and there, but she was really good. She was good all day.

Now some fun stuff for me. My father-in-law, Bill/Papaw, treated all the ladies to a trip to the Coach Outlet. We had been pestering him for almost 2 years about a treat for the girls and finally, we got to go! Papaw has taken the guys on a fishing trip 3 years in a row, leaving the women to 1) take care of the kids, and 2) no vacation for us for 3 years! Amy talked Papaw into a very nice budget for each lady and off we went. I got a purse, a wallet (as some of you are aware are as much as the purses!), a wristlet, and a pair of sunglasses (the glasses on Charlie's Christmas present to me). I didn't think I would have so much fun because I really wanted to go to the spa, but there was something so fun about spending someone else's money!!! Okay, that is wrong, but well deserved treat to all the women in this family taking care of their men!
